Find Rapid Relief with EMDR Intensives
Accelerate your healing journey with our EMDR intensive program, tailored to fit your schedule and needs. Our intensives offer all of the benefits of fast-acting EMDR therapy in a format that seamlessly aligns with your calendar while providing a focused and effective approach to healing.

Why Intensives?
- EMDR intensives utilize a personalized treatment plan that allows you to skip the waitlist and get faster access to scheduling options reserved exclusively for intensives.
- The intensive model is designed to support your preferred schedule and timeline for your goals without sacrificing the integrity of treatment.
- EMDR intensives offer quick access to quick outcomes.
- The originator and developer of EMDR, Francine Shapiro, recommended at least 90 minute sessions. Most EMDR clinicians don’t offer these lengthened sessions because of the constraints insurance companies have in place. Intensives not only allow us to shift our focus to your timeline, they actually allow us to follow EMDR recommendations with even more integrity.

Is an Intensive Right for Me?
- Perhaps you already have a therapist you are working with regularly, and you’re finding that you have a cognitive understanding of what is happening for you, but your emotions and/or body are still confused.
- Maybe you’ve been meaning to get into weekly therapy, but your schedule is so hectic that the idea of weekly appointments feels more overwhelming than supportive.
- You might just be interested in getting right down to the therapeutic work quickly, and you don’t want to spend months in the traditional weekly therapy model to start noticing results.
If you find yourself in any of the statements above, or even if you don’t, but you’re still curious about whether an EMDR intensive is right for you, reach out! You deserve to feel free from whatever is holding you back. It’s about time.

The Research Behind Intensives
- Compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time because of time not spent:
- Checking in at the beginning of each session
- Addressing current crises and concerns that arise on a week to week basis
- Focusing on stabilization and coping skills that you will no longer need after trauma healing
- Assisting you in regaining composure and emotional regulation at the end of session
- EMDR intensives allow for faster symptom reduction with similar, or even better results, while also reducing premature client drop out.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do an intensive if I already have a therapist?
Yes! Maybe you’ve experienced a traumatic event. Perhaps you’re noticing that what you know to be true and what you feel are still out of alignment despite a lot of work, or maybe your therapist even suggested you try EMDR. An intensive can be a great compliment to the work you’re already doing, and often works as a catalyst to facilitate deeper work in talk therapy.
Can I do an EMDR intensive virtually?
Yes! A virtual intensive does require specific considerations and modifications. For example, virtual intensive sessions are limited to 2 hours due to the mental fatigue that can be caused by screens, and you must be physically in the state of Michigan due to clinical licensing rules and regulations. If you are interested in a virtual intensive, please reach out with any additional questions!
Which intensive package is right for me?
Generally speaking, a one-day intensive offers a multitude of resources, and can help increase performance and confidence, or significantly decrease the devastating effects of a single event trauma. While significant healing can occur in a one-day intensive, Complex PTSD and relational trauma deserve more treatment. Some people decide that booking a multiple-day intensive right away is the best investment for their mental wellness and growth, and others start with a one-day intensive with the option to continue working on their trauma histories through a series of one-day intensives spaced out over time.
How does scheduling work?
After communicating through your initial inquiry, we will reach out to answer questions and to schedule your program. First, you will meet for your 90 minute pre-intensive meeting where you will learn more about what to expect, begin a treatment plan, and receive your pre-intensive workbook. During the next few weeks, you will finish your workbook, your therapist will complete your treatment plan, and your intensive sessions will take place. Finally, you will receive your post-intensive workbook and have your post-intensive meeting to review your experience and bring closure to the process.
Can I do more than 3 hours in one day?
Not at Equilibrium. EMDR can be an emotional and taxing form of therapy. While some counselors offer intensives that last longer than 3 hours, we feel strongly about providing the best possible experience we can offer. Due to the fatigue that can arise for both you and the therapist, in-person intensives at Equilibrium are limited to 3 hours/day. Virtual intensives are limited to 2 hours/day based on additional mental fatigue that can be caused by screens.
If I’m doing weekly therapy at Equilibrium, can I participate in an intensive?
Yes! EMDR intensives for current clients are available in modified formats and pricing depending on the nature of your ongoing work. If you’re a current client interested in doing an intensive program in conjunction with your weekly therapy, or even a current client interested in switching to an entirely intensive-based program, we can work together to tailor a program that is best for you.
Can my insurance pay for this program?
No. Insurance companies do not cover the cost of EMDR intensives due to constraints insurance companies place on duration and frequency of sessions. When we are not operating from a mindset that is limited by what insurance will cover, we are able to design a program that is focused solely on your timeline and goals. An EMDR intensive is a significant investment in your well-being, and it may be possible to use an HSA card to cover some or all of your costs.
Do you offer payment plans?
Due to the number of hours dedicated to a single intensive, fees are collected on a scheduled timeline. In order to book your pre-intensive meeting, a non-refundable deposit of $350.00 is required. The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the pre-intensive meeting. If you decide to book an intensive, a schedule of fees specific to you as well as policies and procedures for rescheduling and client and therapist cancellations will be provided.
